Should you repair or replace your air conditioner?
Compare cost per remaining year, not sticker price. Divide the repair quote by the years the system has left. Divide a replacement by however many years you expect a new one to last. The lower number is the cheaper path on cost alone, before you weigh comfort, efficiency, and the odds of a second failure. You set the service-life number yourself in the calculator.

What size air conditioner do you actually need?
No calculator can size your system, including this one. Sizing requires a Manual J load calculation, the industry method for working out how much heating and cooling a specific house needs, accounting for insulation, windows, orientation, ceiling height, duct losses, and air leakage. Floor area captures none of that. The Air Conditioning Contractors of America, the trade body that publishes the standard, is blunt about it: you cannot use square feet per ton to size an air conditioner, you have to do an actual load calculation.

Are HVAC maintenance plans worth the money?
A plan pays for itself when the included visits plus the discount you will really use come to more than the annual fee. Older equipment, multiple systems, or several trades on one plan clear that bar without much trouble. One newer system that rarely needs a service call usually does not.
